On October 15, 2020, the professional institution of higher education evaluation, SoftTech officially released the "2020 SoftTech China's Best Subject Rankings". The ranking list includes 96 first-level disciplines, and the objects of each discipline ranking are all universities that have academic postgraduate degree authorization points in the first-level discipline, and the universities that are ranked in the top 50% of the discipline are published. A total of 4946 subject points from 485 universities are on the list.
     The index system for the ranking of the best disciplines in China by SoftTech China includes five index categories: talent training, scientific research projects, award-winning achievements, academic papers, and high-end talents. There are 16 index dimensions and a total of more than 50 objective quantitative indicators reflecting the competitiveness of disciplines. All ranking data come from authoritative third parties, such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, international and domestic literature databases, etc.

                                                                                                   
   In this ranking of China's best metallurgical engineering disciplines, Central South University performed well, ranking first among the 12 universities on the list. In addition, University of Science and Technology Beijing and Northeastern University also achieved second and third excellent results respectively.
     It is worth mentioning that in the ranking of China's best environmental science and engineering disciplines, there are a total of 100 universities on the list. Among them, the ranking of Central South University has risen from 47 in 2019 to 30, entering the top 20%.
